Migration and Refugees

If our goal is to slow migration, then the best way to do so is to work for a more equitable global system. But slowing migration is an odd goal, if the real problem is global inequality.

In 2012, photojournalist Shannon Jensen documented the displacement of South Sudanese from their homes through photos of their footwear, or lack of it. Later, the photos became an exhibit called A Long Walk, as part of the annual Moving Walls exhibit of the Open Society Foundations. Two of the paintings above were inspired by Shannon Jensen's photos. Some coverage of the exhibit can seen on PRI here.
